Chain of brotherhood reloaded
When the UFL was founded in 1905, this was primarily an act to overcome the trench warfare between English- and French-oriented Freemasonry. The cross-national idea of the “world auxiliary language” Esperanto underpinned the emerging internationality at the time, which is why many Freemasons were involved with Esperanto at an early stage.

From the very beginning, the UFL found broad support from Freemasons from all grand lodges. The formation of a “genuine world fraternal chain” established by transcending national and obediential borders provides brotherhood in times of war and peace. The chain has lost none of its significance and is still one of the cornerstones of the UFL today.
